Currency exchange?

Currency Exchange
Bad girl asked:

I’m going on holiday to Paris. With all the Euro thingy going on, would it be better to exchange currency in the UK or would I get a better exchange rate once I’m actually abroad? BTW I’m going to Paris.

In theory, the exchange rate should be the same no matter whether you do it in your home country or when you get to the country you’re visiting. The only real difference is likely to be the fees you pay to have your currency exchanged.

One thought though. If you take care of the exchange before you leave, it could save you a lot of hassle over trying to do it in a foreign country where language and local procedures could make it more difficult. Plus it will leave you more time to enjoy your trip. Justin H

    Check with.

they’re offering just about the best exchange rate at the moment (in the U.K) If you order online, you get a better deal, but you can still pick your cash up at their outlet in the airport. however, I would say, just change a small amount, and change the rest when you get there. That seems to be the best way here in Cyprus. Some visitors recently said they got a much better rate of exchange here than in the u.K. murphywingedspur

Neither the dollar sucks and your paying more to go over there……but anyways england is even more cause they use the pound but the rest of Europe uses the Euro. Once again they are both at different rates but the dollar is worth less in both countries. starcraft_maniac25

All currency exchange is based (for tourists) on the AMEX rate. Best deal for cash in UK is with Marks and Spencer who are offering slightly higher exchange rate than anyone else. No one in France betters their rate for cash.
Best possible deal is to have a Nationwide Bank account and use their debit card at ATM’s in any foreign country. They will exchange for the mid-rate, that is 4-5% higher than any other method of currency exchange. M&S and Nationwide charge to fees at all (hidden or up front) rugratshd
