Or, should I exchange some in NYC and the rest in Paris?
Or, use my debit card in Paris?

Check with your bank for additional fees you might incur using your debit card. exchange some money here so you have cahs for a few days when you land, just in case something goes wrong and you need cash on hand. Also, check with your bank that your password will be the same abroad - sometimes they need to be longer or shorter in some countries. kate f

Wait until you ge to Paris you will probably get a bet ratio on your return. I would take some cash we always got better exchange rates when traving to varies countries by using the dollar. Patricia H

It’s difficult to say when you should change your currency since the exchange rate changes constantly . I would say your best bet would to change some now and the rest when you arrive in Paris. Or, from what I’ve experienced, using your debit card could be the way to go since in most cases you get the best exchange rate from your bank. Just make sure your card is sponsored from one of the major companies such as Visa, MasterCard, etc. Shovelbum

Everytime I travel to Europe, I stop at the ATM in the airport I land in and take cash out using my credit card. Dan D

The best way to exchange money is to go your local bank in NYC and exchange it there. If you plan on using a card, use your credit card not your debit card in Paris. If you use your debit card at the ATM in Paris, you’ll be hit with massive fees. I always recommend using a credit card, because if anything goes wrong, the credit card company will give you your money back.
Also, the debit card technology in France is outdated so most U.S. debit cards don’t work there. Sometimes it will work but most of the time, the debit cards don’t work. I’ve been to Paris several times and encountered this problem - it’s quite embarassing. duoak
