when and where is the best place to exchange for brazilian currency?
Kim S asked:
I am traveling to Brazil. It is pretty remote area outside of Vitoria. Should I exchange the currency before I leave or after I’m there. When will I get the best rate?

If you belong to a bank here in the States that exchanges money, you’ll probably get a really good rate from them. Even if you don’t, some banks charge only a flat rate ($5-$10) for non-members.
Once traveling, if you need extra cash, the best rate is through the ATMs. Electronic exchanges via ATMs have the cheapest rates by far, and most banks charge a very low percentage for international atm transactions.

When I traveled to Brazil (Minas Gerais) a few yrs ago, I exchanged the currency over there. My ex father in law knew of the place/bank that was offering the highest at that time. May I assume you’re visiting relatives if your headin to a remote area then I’m sure they’ll be able to help you, right? gmg2

On exchanging money, one idea is get some money here, not alot exchanged, like maybe 50-100 dollars. When you arrive in brazil at the international airport you can exchange some more money. In brazil most banks in most cities can exchange money, but usually you would have to shop around the best exchange rates, most banks post in there windows there exchange rates. Charles D
